South Beach
Years ago, a client asked me one day “Have you read that book ‘The South Beach Diet’?  I said that I had not.  She told me it was almost exactly like what I had been telling my clients for years.  Gee, I should have written the book and gotten the big bucks!  Anyway, I did get the book and it was the closest thing to the way that I eat and the way that I advise my clients to eat.    It is healthy and gives a great variety of different foods to eat.  It work on the basis of regulating the foods that cause cravings and unbalanced insulin levels which cause the cravings.

The diet works in stages and I totally like Stage 1 and Stage 2.  Stage 3, which is about 5 weeks into the plan, allows more food into the diet which can  upset the insulin level in the body.  The author believes that if you begin to gain weight, you should just revert back to Stage 1 in order to get your body regulated and the cravings under control again.  I think that if you stick to Stage 2 and only moderately allow foods from Stage 3 into your diet, you will remain in control and continue to lose weight in a healthy manner.  You will be more satisfied and this plan can be used for long term weight control.

Remember that ‘ long term’ is the key to any nutritional plan that will help you stay on track and be healthy.  Almost any ‘diet’ will work ‘short term’.  But, you should be more interested in the ‘long term’ weight control and healthy lifestyle.   Using a good plan as a ‘guide’ is the recommended process so that you can live in the real world and not be a slave to ‘crash diet’..
