I think everyone has tried the Adkins Diet at one time or other if they have ever dieted. The emphasis is on protein. Anyone who tries this ‘diet’ will lose weight but it should never for used for long term. By cutting out all carbohydrates and eating any and all types of protein such as bacon, red meat, cheese, etc., you will be adding cholesterol. If you already have a cholesterol problem anyway, it could be dangerous and cause serious health problems. It is also hard on the organs - the heart, kidneys, liver - to process so much protein.
You will lose weight the first time you try this particular ‘diet’. But you will most likely gain the weight back and maybe even more when you begin to eat regular food again. The problem is that each time you go back on the diet your body will respond more slowly and it will become harder and harder to lose weight and the damage done to your body will only increase.
Again, I tried this diet and lost a few pounds but I was not overweight to begin with. An overweight person will loose rapidly and quickly but may develop long term health related problems. I only stayed true to the regiment for a couple of weeks and felt pretty good while on it. I am a person who enjoys protein. I do not ordinally eat it in excess but I do feel very satisfied when I have protein. A person who does not care for protein would have a very hard time with this eating routine but there is not anyway to be a vegetarian and eat the Adkins way.
I cannot recommend this eating plan because I think it can be very unhealthy long term. If you have no health issues, it could be helpful on a short term basis.
